Pre-assessment Clinic
You may be asked to attend a Pre Assessment Clinic before your operation. The purpose will be to establish and then optimise your general fitness for your forthcoming surgery.  Your appointment will last approximately an hour and a half.  You will be seen by the Pre Assessment Nurse who will need to know details of your:
  • past medical history
  • what medications you take
  • who will collect you following surgery
They will also check your height,   weight, pulse and blood pressure.
They will organise for any tests or investigations that are required prior to surgery such as a blood test or electrocardiograph ( E.C.G.).  If necessary review by an Anaesthetist will be arranged for you at this time to ensure you are fully prepared for surgery.  You are encouraged to discuss all aspects of your operation, i.e. what to expect before, during and after at this visit.

Any other questions that you may have can be addressed at this stage (tip: write your questions down before you come in -you may forget when you are in hospital)
