The main benefits of Telecare are that it may be possible for you stay at home for longer rather than have to go into full-time residential care. It can also support formal and informal carers by giving them added peace of mind.  For an information leaflet about ‘What is Telecare’, please see the information leaflet section.

The equipment can sense risks such as smoke, gas, carbon monoxide and falls and automatically calls for help through a dedicated control centre which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For further information about the equipment and what it can do can be found please see ‘Telecare equipment factsheet’ that can be found in the information leaflet section.

What is Telehealth? PDF Print E-mail
What is it all About?

Telehealth is the provision of health services at a distance using a range of technologies. Examples of telehealth include telephone or video consultations to support diagnosis and management, clinical networks and health professional education.

An example of telehealth in action is the remote electronic exchange of personal health data from a patient at home to medical staff at hospital or general practice to assist in diagnosis and monitoring. The main benefits are that clinical staff can monitor long-term conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease without the need for the patient to attend the surgery. The patient is taught to take their own regular health readings and feed them back to the surgery.
